| Do You Suffer from Low Pay and High Rent? April 18, 2002 - If your answer to this question is yes, then let me explain to you why your situation is not going to get better any time soon. Ever heard of Pedro Nava? He is the President of an organization commonly referred to as SB-SCAM. He and his pals would like to pretend that they want to help the poor of our community, especially Hispanics, but don't believe them for a minute! For the past thirty years these very same people, ideologues from the far-left, have systematically destroyed both job and housing opportunities in this community that would have enabled the poor to become upwardly mobile. How successful have they been? Santa Barbara now owns the dubious distinction of having the least affordable housing in the entire State of California. And with respect to jobs, the poorest among us are now earning 25% less than they did back in 1973! SB-SCAM is comprised of a who's who list of the people who are responsible for these chilling statistics. These are people who have worked in leadership positions in both the city and county government, as well as, the various non-profit organizations in our community that perennially oppose the creation of new job and housing opportunities. Organizations like the Environmental Defense Center and the Citizen's Planning Association. Often these organizations oppose projects in the name of environmental protection, but that is just a ruse. The fact is you are not part of the status quo and that alone is what these people are protecting. |
